Today I checked out of curiosity how many fake Elon Musk profiles actually exist on Facebook. Many users search for “fake Elon Musk Facebook profiles” or “Elon Musk scam Facebook” — and the result was quite shocking.
The platform is swarming with profiles calling themselves “Elon Musk”, “Elon Reeve Musk” or similar variations – just like on X.
“They all have their own names. Why do they all call themselves Elon Musk or Elon Reeve Musk?”
Is it really just about scamming people? Romance scams, fake “Elon gives you a Tesla” promises, investment fraud, or simply stealing followers and attention?
Apparently yes. And Facebook continues to let them operate largely unchecked.
Why doesn’t anyone do anything about it?
While our chancellor is strongly calling for German citizens’ IP addresses to be easier to trace, there seems to be no issue with the Nigerian, Kenyan, and other fake Elon Musks. Does it not matter that they are targeting German victims?
The same authorities (DSA, Coimisiún na Meán, European Commission) that scrutinize X.com for every little thing are remarkably relaxed also when it comes to the obvious scam profiles on Facebook.

Heute habe ich aus purem Interesse nachgesehen, wie viele Fake-Elon-Musk-Profile es eigentlich auf Facebook gibt. Viele Nutzer suchen nach „Fake Elon Musk Facebook“ oder „Elon Musk Scam Facebook“. Das Ergebnis hat mich ziemlich erschreckt.
Die Plattform wimmelt nur so von Profilen, die sich „Elon Musk“, „Elon Reeve Musk“ oder ähnliche Varianten nennen – genau wie auf X.
„Die haben doch alle einen eigenen Namen. Warum nennen die sich alle Elon Musk oder Elon Reeve Musk?“
Geht es wirklich nur darum, Menschen abzuzocken? Romance-Scams, angebliche Tesla-Gewinne, Investment-Betrug oder einfach nur Follower und Aufmerksamkeit klauen?
Offenbar ja. Und Facebook lässt sie weiterhin weitgehend auch gewähren.
Warum greift niemand ein?
Während unser Bundeskanzler mit Nachdruck fordert, dass IP-Adressen deutscher Bürger leichter verfolgbar werden, scheint es bei den nigerianischen, kenianischen und sonstigen Fake-Elon-Musks plötzlich kein Problem zu geben. Da ist es egal das die auch deutsche Opfer produzieren?
Die gleichen Behörden (DSA, Coimisiún na Meán, European Commission), die X.com bei jeder Kleinigkeit unter die Lupe nehmen, schauen bei den offensichtlichen Betrugsprofilen auf Facebook erstaunlich entspannt zu.
