February 21, 2026 – The Reality Behind the Blue Checks
Important note upfront: I'm not taking anyone's side. Not the EU Commission / DSA, not Elon Musk, and not X.
Today Rene sent me two screenshots of a very obvious fake account.
Image 1: Fake pretending to be Elon Musk – blue checks everywhere + scammer link
Image 2: Fake reposts under Grok to steal traffic
Rene blocked it immediately – and with pleasure 😄.
The profile is ridiculously obvious: embarrassing blue checks all over, classic Telegram/Signal link. The real Elon would never do this.
What does this tell us?
In December 2025 X was fined €120 million under the DSA mainly for deceptive blue check design. Appeal ongoing (Feb 2026), payment unclear.
Verification on X is chaos. The blue checks the fake abuses are exactly what the EU called deceptive – yet new fakes appear daily.
9 years on X, never bought a blue check. Embarrassing waste of money.
Further criticism
- Transparency: Does the EU enforce this equally on Meta? Users notice nothing there.
- Researcher access: Are they improving fake detection – or just faster content takedowns?
- Victim protection: Not one cent of the €120M reaches real scam victims.
My view
All platforms should cooperate on anti-fake tools for everyone. It's doable – but they prefer complaining while the DSA pushes fines.
Is this the 2026 internet we want? Fakes win, victims lose.

Vorab: Ich stehe auf keiner Seite. Weder DSA/EU noch Elon Musk oder X.
Heute schickte Rene zwei Screenshots eines plumpen Fakes.
Bild 1: Fake als Elon Musk – blaue Haken im Profil und Hintergrund + Betrüger-Link
Bild 2: Fake postet unter Grok-Antwort, um Traffic zu klauen
Rene blockte sofort – mit Freude 😄.
Peinlich plump: Blaue Haken überall, typischer Telegram-Link. Echter Elon macht so was nie.
Was sagt uns das?
Dezember 2025: 120 Mio. € DSA-Strafe gegen X wegen irreführender Haken. Berufung läuft, Zahlung unklar.
Verifizierung = Chaos. Genau diese Haken sind EU-kritisiert – Fakes boomen trotzdem.
Ich war 9 Jahre bei X, nie Haken gekauft. Meiner Meinung nach peinlich und unnötig.
Weitere Kritik
- Transparenz: Gilt das bei Meta genauso? Als User merke ich nichts.
- Forschung: Geht's um Fake-Erkennung – oder nur um schnelle Löschungen?
- Opferschutz: Kein Cent kommt bei echten Opfern an.
Meine These
Besser: Plattformen kooperieren bei Tools gegen Fakes für alle. Machbar – aber alle jammern nur.
Ist das Internet 2026 so gewollt? Fakes gewinnen, Opfer verlieren.
