My Opinion on Fakes and the Damage They Cause on WhatsApp, Telegram, and X
The Elon Musk Scam Wave of 2025
Fakes aren’t just annoying – they destroy lives! Reputations! Trust!
On WhatsApp and Telegram, they operate almost completely unchecked: mass video calls, fake giveaways, pig-butchering scams, romance fraud.
Victims lose thousands of euros, their life savings, sometimes everything they have.
People like me have to spend 400 euros on a new phone and a new number just to escape the constant harassment.
Real financial and emotional damage – and no one compensates the victims.
Many can’t afford expensive civil lawsuits or – like me – receive a letter from the public prosecutor stating that the case has been dropped.
Here are just three media examples that show how real the damage is:
- A 76-year-old woman loses 18,000 euros to a fake Elon Musk in a romance scam – ZEIT.
- A 43-year-old woman pays around 12,000 euros to a scammer pretending to be Elon Musk – Stern.

On X, the fakes are visible and sometimes get deleted quickly once reported (I’ve experienced it myself – accounts gone in 2 hours).
But the real damage happens off-platform: the bait leads people to WhatsApp and Telegram, where the actual theft takes place.
The DSA wants to collect millions from Elon Musk – but does the DSA do anything about the real scam hotspots? Apparently not! And the actual victims get nothing.
Elon Musk’s reputation is being systematically destroyed by thousands of impersonators – and apparently nobody in politics cares.
This is not fair. Not democratic. And not just.
That’s the bitter reality.
But nobody does anything about it.
Why don't all the platforms work together to develop an effective anti-fake toolset against fakes, scams, and bots? Are they all just interested in quick profits?

Fakes sind nicht nur nervig – sie zerstören Leben! Ruf! Vertrauen!
Auf WhatsApp und Telegram treiben sie fast ungehindert ihr Unwesen: Massen-Videoanrufe, gefälschte Gewinnspiele, Pig-Butchering-Scams, Romance-Fraud.
Opfer verlieren Tausende von Euro, ihr Erspartes, manchmal alles...
Menschen wie ich müssen 400 Euro für ein neues Handy und eine neue Nummer ausgeben, nur um der Belästigung zu entkommen.
Echter finanzieller und emotionaler Schaden – und niemand entschädigt die Opfer.
Viele können sich teure Zivilklagen nicht leisten oder bekommen – wie ich – einen Brief von der Staatsanwaltschaft, dass das Verfahren eingestellt wurde.
Hier nur drei Medienbeispiele, die zeigen, wie real der Schaden ist:

Auf X sind die Fakes sichtbar und werden bei Meldung manchmal schneller gelöscht (ich habe es selbst erlebt – Accounts waren in 2 Stunden weg).
Aber der eigentliche Schaden passiert außerhalb der Plattform: Die Köder führen zu WhatsApp und Telegram, wo dann der eigentliche Diebstahl stattfindet.
Die DSA will Millionen von Elon Musk kassieren – aber unternimmt die DSA etwas gegen die echten Betrugshotspots? Offenbar nicht! Und die tatsächlichen Opfer bekommen nichts.
Der Ruf von Elon Musk wird systematisch von Tausenden von Imitatoren zerstört – und anscheinend interessiert das in dieser Politik niemanden.
Das ist nicht fair. Nicht demokratisch. Und nicht gerecht.
Das ist die bittere Realität.
Aber niemand tut etwas dagegen.
Warum entwickeln die ganzen Plattformen nicht gemeinsam ein effektives Antifake-Toolsetup gegen Fakes, Scams & Bots? Geht es denen allen nur um den schnellen Profit?
